M Chapoutier, Crozes Ermitage Les Varonniers Rouge 2020

This wine is full-bodied, deeply concentrated, and remarkably complex with a rich, velvety texture. The 2020 vintage—a stellar year in the Northern Rhône—boasts an expressive nose of dark crushed blackberries, ripe cassis, and black cherries, seamlessly layered with complex savory notes of black olive tapenade, smoked bacon, cracked black pepper, and subtle graphite. On the palate, it feels expansive and powerful, held together by firm, fine-grained tannins and a vibrant, granitic acidity that gives the wine exceptional drive and poise. It finishes dry, long, and mineral-laden, leaving lingering echoes of licorice, dark cocoa, and dried violet.
